Podcast Capture (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Have you ever stopped to think of the rich and untapped potentials of a podcast?
Just recently, I was watching a video on how this guy generates 6 figures and within the next few hours, I logged into my inbox and saw an email from John Lee Dumas.
There was a link to a podcast he recorded with Jesse Krieger. After listening to that podcast, I realised the great opportunities that abound for service providers.
Maybe you’re a web developer, a business consultant, a freelance writer, a programmer, a social media strategist, a search marketer and so on, and you want to attract high paying clients, this post is for you.
And the beauty of this strategy is that you don’t need to create your own podcasts. You only have to listen to a great one. In fact, if you follow the exact 3-step process below, you’d be negotiating with your potential client by this time next week.
Why you should listen to podcasts?
As a blogger who makes a living by providing professional services to a specific group of people with similar interests, listening to podcasts will set you on course, and give you that rare advantage to trounce the seaming competition.
Unlike blog posts and videos, podcasts takes a lot of effort and creativity. The podcaster has to brainstorm, conduct some rigorous market research in order to understand her audience and speak the language that they can respond to.
In other words, every episode of podcast is aimed at teaching you how to achieve a specific goal – without soiling your mind through information overload.
I still read blog posts, but I’m gradually falling in love with podcasts. I’m yet to listen to any podcast that doesn’t add value to my business/life.
Funny enough, I haven’t recorded a 1-minute podcast myself, and I don’t have plans to do it anytime soon – but that’s not the goal.
Now you know the importance of you listening to a podcast. Don’t you?
Having said that, here is the 3-step process you need to attract high paying clients just by listening to a value-packed podcast:
Step #1: Don’t stop at listening
‘The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.’ – Ayn Rand
If you’ve ever listened to a podcast and went way without exploring the sponsors section, you’ve done yourself a disservice.
You see, listening with rapt attention to what someone else had recorded takes a lot of effort and time. And you know that time is money.
If you didn’t take further action, what’s your benefit? The sponsors for each episode are usually corporate organisations. Oftentimes, they’re looking for freelancers and service providers like you and I.
And you know what?
These vacant positions are only opened to people who actively follow the company (their products and news). For instance, one hidden requirement for getting a job at leadpages.net (a firm that usually sponsor several podcast episodes) is your patronage.
That is, you’re a paying customer and had been for at least 3 months.
This requirement may not be specified on the careers page, but if you include that in your cover letter, the chances of getting an interview are high – trust me on this.
So next time you listen to a podcast, scroll down to the sponsors session, visit each of the sites and see if they need your service.
If the organization isn’t hiring, you could contact them and sell your service. Just make sure you mention the podcast from where you got through to them, and how that podcast inspired you to write them.
Don’t argue the possibility of winning a project through this strategy, just do it.
Step #2: Earn trust with potential clients
One of the ways you can earn the trust of your target audience is by referencing the top podcast episodes that inspires you to continually give value out.
Last month, I landed my dream copywriting gig, all because I shared a podcast link with the book author.
I told him how this single episode has changed my life, and how they can improve their bottom line just by listening, applying and preaching the same message to their target audience.
There is something intriguing about a podcast. Pat Flynn have crossed over 1,000,000 million downloads so far and counting. John Lee Dumas is the Grand Daddy of podcasting and his income for September was a little above $240,000.
Remember, a lot of people will instantly fall in love with you, just because you’re feeding on the right information.
In the past, readers were leaders, but today, the game is fast changing and so – listeners make good readers to lead efficiently.
Step #3: Ride to stardom
Listening to a podcast would inspire you to take immediate action. Most times when I read a blog post, I find myself always procrastinating.
You know why? Text-based content doesn’t have much captivating power like the voice. A podcast is literally a voice oozing out of your smartphone, reading device or PC.
If you’re the type of person who finds it difficult to pitch guest post ideas to authority blogs, when you listen to a relevant podcast that addresses that, you’d be fired up to ‘act now.’
Go to iTunes and look at the top10 podcasts in your industry. Download and listen, until you’re soaked into success, zeal and positive mindset.
There you’ve it, the 3-step process for turning your dull moments into a profitable atmosphere for attracting high paying clients – just by listening to inspiring podcast episodes.
I’m sure you’re excited about that tactics?
Is it possible to earn six-figure income through this strategy? Yes it is, but you must work smarter at it and to get the most results, focus on driving qualified traffic to your services page.
How often do you listen to a podcast with rapt attention?
Your headline is the first thing people see when they view your blog post or article. Don’t let it be the last thing they see of your writing though. By paying attention to your word choice and crafting the best headline possible, you’ll inspire your future readers to click and keep reading. Just follow these steps and you’re well on your way to making the best first impression possible.
Make it Catchy or Create a Hook
Creating a catchy headline is about more than just using fun adjectives. Rather, try using word play that incites an emotion, and that includes laughter or intrigue, like the headline: “Big Rig Carrying Fruit Crashes on Fruit, Creates Jam.” While puns like this one aren’t necessary to create a hook, it can be a great way to initially grab your reader’s attention.
Keep it Relevant
While you’ll often be rewarded for your creativity in a headline, make sure that the headline is still relevant and that it, above all, makes logical sense. After all, readers want to know what they’ll be reading when they click open your article. Headlines that simply state, “New Study Shows Health Benefits,” tells nothing new to the reader.
Promise Valuable Information
Headlines, and in turn your articles, should offer something that the reader wants to know or learn about. With that in mind, think of headlines as a way of introducing the new skills someone will learn about when they read your article, or perhaps teach them a new way of looking at the world, or simply, a way to make their business better. For example, this headline from Maxwell Systems — “Best Practices Guide: Optimizing Your Construction Business for Profitable Growth” — hits on a number of things that will intrigue people in the construction industry: learning new skills, making a profit and making process improvements. In other words, the headline gives people in the industry every reason to click.
People love lists, in part because they’re often quite memorable. Plus, since numbers promise a list of sorts, readers will know exactly what kind of format the article is in even before they open the article. When using this tactic, try focusing on just three to seven as the number to use, as its quick and to the point. Then again, short lists aren’t required, which Buzzfeed proves every day with its lists and reliance on numbers in its headlines.
Take a Stand
The best way to inspire a conversation is to build a controversy. Take a stand in your headline, and it’ll immediately make people agree — or disagree — with you. Crafting your article using either what, why, how or when is often a good start to doing this.
State the Facts
If you ask a question in your headline, you run the risk of someone saying, “Nope, that topic doesn’t interest me,” and you’ve immediately lost a reader. Rather, state an interesting fact that will appeal to a wider audience.
Demonstrate What You’ll Teach
Again, this goes back to providing a value to your readers. If you share what you’ll be teaching from the get go, your readers will know exactly what they’ll learn by clicking through to your article. How-to articles are particularly successful at this, and you can use this “teaching” method for a whole slew of topics, like “How to Break Up with Your Boyfriend” or “How to Tie a Tie.”
Utilize Celebrity Names and Brands
Name recognition is a wonderful thing when it comes to headlines. As long as the name is relevant to your topic, use it. It doesn’t hurt that using well-known names — whether of brands, celebrities or even current trends — can also help your article in the search rankings as well. For one, “CAT Machine in Skyfall Movie” ties a well-known brand to a timely movie. It keeps the brand relevant, while also linking two things that people wouldn’t normally realize were related.
Keep it Short
Headlines should be easily digestible and easy to share, but those aren’t the only reasons to keep them under 65 characters. That length is also the maximum amount of characters that Google shows in its search results. That means if one of your keywords happens to fall after those 65 characters, then it’s doing you no good.
All nine of these tips are important to consider when you write your headline, but they’re not the only considerations. Make sure you’re using an active voice in your headlines, because passive is bland and doesn’t inspire action. Lastly, read the headline out loud before you publish to make sure it has a natural flow.

How do you share your own personal message with the world? How do you brand yourself, tell your story completely and still make money? What personal experience and knowledge have you gained throughout your life that you can use to brand yourself online?
That’s right, when you share your knowledge with others and brand yourself as an expert in your niche or industry, people will come directly to you, start referring you to others and this is where you can monetize your knowledge online that will brand yourself.
Right now, you would be thinking “What do I know that’s so special I could share it”? I know that’s what you’re thinking because it’s what I thought when I was first starting out online. You may already be an expert in a certain area and just don’t know how to put this expertise to work for you and your brand. When you brand yourself online you can’t let fear get in the way…. don’t worry what others will think of you or your story. You can’t attract everyone to you, just those that relate to your story.
Everyone has knowledge, wisdom and some kind of expertise they can offer to others. I’ll use myself as an example, 5 years ago my position in real estate was replaced by someone much younger and less expensive than me. It was at this time that I turned to the internet to secure my families future… being a solo parent, the pressure was on and I had to work fast.
It took me a while to find the right direction, mentor and mindset and when I did it was full speed ahead. The first thing I did was brand myself on line… endeavouring to show transparency through telling my story. I didn’t set out to change the world I just wanted to change the world of those who were interested. I figured, if I could make a difference in my life, I could show others how to make a difference in theirs.
Back then when I was starting, there was a kind of secrecy to getting started online and everyone seemed to have an agenda and trying to sell you something. I knew I didn’t want to be one of these people. My work ethics and values were way above hammering people with products and sales pitches.
I was hearing all kinds of jargon like blogging, Facebook, Social Media, Content marketing etc… I really didn’t have any idea how to get my message out there or how to build a revenue base from my message. By surrounding myself with experts in my industry, by modelling them, watching them and ultimately befriending them I learn’t how to build a real business from either the knowledge I already had or by gathered knowledge from others on and offline. I attended conferences, listened to powerful mindset training and even found myself a mentor who gave me endless ideas on how to brand yourself online.
There are certain steps you will need to take to become an expert in your field online…. Here are a few tips.
Choose your subject. This could be anything you are passionate about or you may decide on a new subject you are going to become a master at and teach others to become a master in this subject too. It’s no use choosing something just because it’s popular, if you are not passionate about it, it won’t work… you have to own it.
What are you learning now that you love? What would you like to shout to the world? What set of values would you share with people and which one of these things would you like to make an income doing?
I ask these questions of my clients so they can delve deep into their thoughts and do what they truly love and to get their minds ticking. Once you start to change the way you think and dig deep within your true self this is when you will truly make a difference, not only to your life but to others as well.
For example – you could be an outstanding executive for a major company, why not teach other people how to become an amazing executive as well. You’ve been there done that, you have an abundance of information about how you got to where you are today, share it! By sharing and giving advice about what you know best you can brand yourself as the go to person in your field.
What’s your Story that will brand yourself?
The big thing that differentiates one brand from another is their story. This isn’t rocket science I know, everyone has a different story and people want to hear it. Your story is what will make you stand out from the next expert in your field. We all have the same tools and technology however the difference is the quality of your story and how you connect with people and explain who you are, how you are different and what values and service you have to offer.
When telling your story you need to have credibility and there are 3 ways to demonstrate your expertise. Tell the story of how you get results. For example, if you were a top real estate agent and you sold 60 homes per month. You then tell the story of how you sell 60 homes per month, this will give you credibility.
In fact I have a friend online who’s an expert interviewer. Peter had been marketing online for a few years part-time and he knew he needed to become an expert in his field to make money. How better to do this than to interview experts in the field of marketing. He no runs The Peter Montgomery Show and has turned this expertise into his product. Peter’s an excellent example of when you can get results from researching other people you then become the reporter and the research expert which also then makes you a good role model for others to follow.
Brand yourself via connection
The next step to brand yourself is all about making a connection with your audience. Let your audience know there’s nothing special about you, help them understand that you’ve been through the same struggles that they have been through and if you haven’t, then let them know that you can empathise and understand what they are going through.
You will make the best connections with your audience, not by bragging about all you have conquered but by letting them know that you too have been through the struggle. You are just like them. People, want to know you and when they know, like and trust you they then gain that level of authenticity with you. You become transparent.
Your readers will want to hear the good parts of your story too, how you “made it” just not upfront.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to branding. There is a lot more to tell you, however I think this article and the tips provided will help you understand the basics whether you are a large or small business.
A few tips to remember to brand yourself online.
- Look at what you are passionate about – what you love to do and what you want to shout to the world. The more passionate you are the more successful you will be. If you don’t have something you are passionate about do some research and perhaps you will find something to inspire you.
- Get someone else’s perspective, your friends will love to tell you what they think you would be great at and you’ll also get a few more good ideas to toss around and brainstorm.
- If you are already an expert at a particular subject, brand yourself as the expert in this field.
- Surround yourself with other leaders in your field, hang out with them, follow them and friend them. You will learn so much from hanging out with the right people and they will help you brand yourself online.
- Tell your story – Not to give you bragging rights, but to give you transparency with your readers so they will know you are like them, you are human and have been where they are.
- Your story should have credibility. The way to show this credibility is by showing your results or proof of how you have become an expert at what you do. Show people that you have good values and are a role model, they will be happy to do business with you.
- Even if you think you don’t have a story and are just starting out, people work on the theory that if you are honest and transparent you are worth knowing and will follow you and listen.
To brand yourself online is to give you and your business a strong internet presence, credibility where you control your own search results.

Perhaps you are just starting out in your online business venture or maybe you have been online for a while. Either way you will need to use these 7 steps or strategies to keep you on track in your Online Internet Marketing path to success.
1. Commitment – be enthusiastic about your business, this will lead to further internet marketing success. Others can feel this enthusiasm when you’re speaking with them and see that you are committed to business building and helping them do the same with their internet marketing success.
2. Take Action – That’s right, internet marketing success is as simple as that! Stop thinking about all the things you are going to do to make your business a success and start applying your strategies TODAY!
3.Focus – Stay focused. Keep your antenna Alert always switched to ON! Stop spending hours checking your email which can always steer you in the wrong direction which will cause you to lose focus on your internet marketing success. A great way to stay focused is by doing a list of things you need to do the next day. Tick them off as you go. You will find that by doing this you will not only be focused by will actually achieve a lot more with your time. Let’s face it….. there is never enough time right?
4.Capitalize – Capitalize on the net. Don’t put all your e-eggs into one e-basket. Share your business and internet marketing success around and get noticed out there. What I mean by this is once you find something that works well for you stick to it….. But then go out and find another strategy that will work just as well or even better. Sometimes a good strategy can be right under your nose.
5.Be Confident – Having the right tools, having the right information and using the right process will get you to the top. Not too many companies offer this under the one roof… however, once you find the one right for you, you will feel confident not only in yourself but also in every aspect of your business. Positioning yourself with the right company that has already got it right, will give you confidence in the market place.
6.Top Mentor – You may think you don’t need a mentor to create your internet marketing success. WRONG! Every top earner I know on and off the internet has found themselves a mentor. Your mentor can be someone who you go to when things are getting tough and you are losing focus. This is the person that will get you on track to your internet marketing success, whether you know this person directly or just by reading one of their books. It’s not unusual to have 2 mentors who both bring different aspects to the table for you.
7.Business Building – Look at your online business like a brick and mortar business without employees. You couldn’t just set yourself up in a brick and mortar business and expect people to know you are there. It’s the same online. You need to build your business you can do this fast or slow, depending on time and money of course. Know today, you are building for your future and whatever you do today will be another building block to the future stability of your online business and your internet marketing success down the track.
Until next time…..
Killer Email Tips
The internet is just overflowing with marketing emails at the moment. Everyone is trying to promote their affiliate programs and their home based business opportunities. Email marketing is one of the most effective strategies – if carried out correctly. Using the killer email strategies below will change the way you email your client from this day forward.
Not everyone likes to read emails. In fact, if you are like me most of them go directly to junk folder! However, I do go through them quickly once a week to make sure I haven’t missed anything important.
Email Marketing takes time to become effective…. you have to be persistent and patient nothing happens overnight. It is said that it takes approximately 7 emails from the sender until the recipient starts to take notice…. and that’s if they are the best emails with the best headlines that offer the best value to the reader. Mastering killer emails and writing techniques will generate huge income if done correctly.
These are only a few basic strategies to get you started with your killer email strategy.
The Email Headline
This is the most important part of your whole email, much thought should be put into your headline. A killer email headline will be the one thing that captures your audience and give you the click! You will need to step outside the box to create curiosity for your reader. One of my favourite sites for headline inspiration is copyblogger.com. They have a whole section just related to great headlines that you can use when writing your killer emails.
Another email headline tool is The Advanced Marketing Institutes, Headline Analyzer.
Many people will tell you email marketing just simply doesn’t work…. these are the people that are not writing “Killer Email Headlines”.
To do this you can capture their curiosity, shock them or capture their emotional side. Another effective way is to ask a question to get them thinking.
The Email Body
Your killer headline has captured their attention and now you have to give them a solution to their problem. Write as if you are writing to 1 person. Don’t address them as you are writing to a list. This makes your email more personal, giving great results to your campaign.
Let them know what you can do for them. Tell them how you can solve their internet marketing or business problems, with a solution. Use emotion in your words. I have a list of power words I use i.e. Ingenious, Blinding, Maximize, Cutting Edge… just to name a few. There are literally hundreds of these power words that you can use in your email marketing.
A Call to Action
Tell your reader what to do next. You want them to click on your website to generate leads and income. Right? You will need to direct them, tell them exactly where to go to get this information. Your email marketing strategy should be strong and to the point.
You’re Email Signature
I say this so much I even bore myself! You need to be transparent, people join people not businesses! Sign your email with your name, your phone number, Skype username, your blog address. Give them every opportunity to be able to connect with YOU.
Here’s a recap for successful email writing….
- Here is what I’ve got for you (headline)
- This is what I can do for you (body)
- Here’s what to do next (call to action)
- Signature detail (be transparent)
Don’t do this!
A bad example I just pulled from my spam folder.
Subject: $1,980 with no selling!
Body: Everyone is doing this…. no selling, no recruiting, and no training.
Signature: Check it out…. http://whatabigscam.crap
Anyone with half a brain or who has had any experience with internet marketing will not fall for this. This is the kind of email that gives the internet and email marketing such a bad name.
So, you see what I mean? If you are trying to make it online and want to build a good quality list of people you can sell to in the future you need to give them value, give them what they need. They are looking for someone they can trust. Writing good marketing emails will help build this trust for you and your list.
Until next time….
