I recently interviewed Melbourne Entrepreneur Rick Green where we spoke about the difficulties and scams new internet marketers are faced with on their way to making their fortunes online. When Rick shared his online venture with me over the last 5 years I was literally flabergasted how much money he has wasted and how much he had made in this time period. Read on to find our the full story…….

Rick Green is just an ordinary guy who was looking for a way to increase his income and give his family a better lifestyle.
Recently Married Rick shared his story, which undoubtedly will sound familiar to many of you.
Q. When did you first start to look for an opportunity online?
A. I started looking for an online business opportunity in 2005.
Q. What goals were you hoping to achieve by having an online business?
A. I wanted to be able to become my own boss and create a healthy passive income to support my family.
Q. What sort of businesses have you tried over the years?
A. Over the last 5 years I’ve been a part of Forex Trade, Google, Ebay and Amazon Affiliate Marketing, and bought a fair few software programmes from Clickbank, but I just had no idea how to market these businesses and I lost over $20K in this 5 year period.
Q. How much money if any, did you make in any or all in the businesses you were in?
A. I made exactly $37.40 in total….. (Me….. OUCH)
Q. What lessons have you learnt about searching for an online business Rick?
A. Don’t believe everything that others tell you over the internet. Some marketers give you unrealistic figures and if you are new to the industry you should do your due diligence. I was gullible 5 years ago! These days, I’ve learnt my lesson the hard way.
Q. What knowledge have you gained from your past online experience?
A. That you have to be very careful who you deal with and you have to do your research before you decide to take on an online venture. I have learnt from my past experience and I do my research thoroughly before I even think of investing my hard earned cash on anything these days.
Q. If you had your time over again what would you do differently?
A. If I was starting from scratch, I’d make sure I was joining a team where I had plenty of help and a good mentor for support, plus I would also make sure I had a good amount of internet marketing knowledge up my sleeve to ensure my success.
Q. In your search for an online business, what were the things that stood out to you and screamed SCAM!? (Looking back on your past experience.)
A. I would steer clear of websites that boast unrealistic figures e.g. $120,000 a week. Watch out for short term projects not offering longevity with a residual or long term income strategy. You are dealing with a website and not an actual person that offers no contact address, phone number or social networking contact. You need to speak to someone, make contact and learn more about them… get to know them.
Q. What advice would you give to people searching for an online business and wanting to make money online?
A. Be very cautious, do your research, speak with other members before you decide to go ahead with the project, and do not believe in the inflated profit figures most will show on their websites. Just imagine if someone makes $120k a week why would he or she tell you the secrets? However, if someone makes $10,000 in a week this sounds more realistic and definitely achievable. Even though $10,000 may sound a lot to someone that is new to internet marketing, this is what is achievable today online with the right product and marketing education.
Any closing thoughts Rick?
I’ve definitely learn’t my lesson, not to jump in feet first with the over promise of income that never comes. I am fortunate that I finally found an online business like Carbon Copy Pro that doesn’t offer unreachable income claims, where I feel a lot safer and confident.
I’ve finally learn’t the secrets of running a successful business online, with the support of a team that I have never found before.
I guess, I have become internet wise in the last few years. So I would like to convey one message to like minded online entrepreneurs – “Be real, think big and never give up on your dreams…Never, because the harder you work the bigger your rewards will be” Think Big and Kiss Ass!
I’m sure Rick really meant to say “Kick butt” not “kiss Ass”….

I totally understand what it feels like to be searching for an online business!
My search started about 2 years ago when I joined a popular MLM business. I had no idea how to promote my new business so I took to the internet to start searching for some answers.
Aussie are known for their scepticism and I am no different. A couple of weeks into my search I landed on a website that seemed to have all the answers. So, I got to work and started digging with a fine tooth combe, reading testimonials, watching videos attending webinars etc. After all my research into the company, I realised this was exactly where I should be and all of my skeptic thoughts floated out the window never to be seen again.
Within about 1/2 an hour I had my own online business and was so excited to get started with the training and begin to build my new business online.
My Online Community!
I can’t begin to tell you the support I have recieved not only from the online community but also from my sponsor and mentors. You are never alone. One of my biggest fears when I started was that I’m not that technically minded. When I had a problem I just asked someone and there was always someone there with an answer for me and a way to solve my problem. This past 13 months has totally changed my life in more ways than one and I can say for sure that the happiest people in my life are my two boys knowing that their mum is here for them after school.

I believe these are the 4 essentials you need for success in any MLM, Network Marketing or Internet business. Without these crucial elements, it could mean the difference between success or failure in your online business.
#1. The first thing you need is proper marketing training. Marketing training is simply communication – you are conveying your message to your prospective customers or clients. What you are doing really is filling a need. You are giving people exactly what they want. (no begging them to join you).
#2. Secondly, you will need a highly effective, leveraged, automated marketing system. When you have a marketing system that is automated and does the “Selling and Telling” for you, there is no limit to how much traffic you can generate and send to your website. If you don’t have a system you have to speak to every single one of your leads i.e. (“cold calling”). If you are showing “The Plan” and doing presentations to people over and over again you are not being productive. This is neither time effective or to say the least cost effective.
When you use a system that is set up to do the qualifying of your prospects for you, filtering out the people that are just “curious” or not qualified, then you will be only talking to the people that are serious, interested people only. These are the ones that are actually ready to get started. More constructive use of your time, wouldn’t you say?
When your marketing system is automated and works for you whether you are at your computer or not, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, you naturally want to send as much traffic as possible through that system. The more traffic you send through the system the more visitors you drive to your website the more people will be introduced to your business and hence more opportunities you will have to market and sell. This of course means more profit for YOU!
If you are not using a marketing system for your business you are severely limiting your income.
#3. Believe it or not, you need a mentor! Even with access to the greatest marketing training in the world, the finest tools and the most cutting edge system, you still need a mentor. Why?
Because you need direct access to someone who has “been there and done that”. Someone, who is getting the results that you want in your business and who is willing to spend their time to show you the way. If you want to save yourself time, money and frustration and a lot of pain, a mentor is your answer. You will want to reach your goals as quickly as possible and your mentor will help you avoid the pitfalls. Your mentor will give you private access to their own personal training vault with what to do and what not to do… no amount of money can replace this kind of information.
#4. Commitment! When you first start marketing your business online there are many hills to climb and roads to cross. For this, you will require total commitment from yourself. When things get tough you don’t just throw your hands in the air and say “this is too hard”. You can of course, but you will never make a success of your business with a bad attitude. In fact this is why most people aren’t successful online. They just can’t hack it. So, commit to yourself and your business with a positive mental attitude and you will find success is within your reach.
Taking all of the above into consideration, proper marketing training, a cutting edge marketing system, a top mentor and your commitment, you really have no excuse not to be successful in creating your own online wealth.
